Becoming a Self Employed Driver

Becoming a self employed driver is not always as easy as it sounds. However, there is a huge demand for self employed drivers and so you would be going into a field which would provide you with plenty of work. Whether you want to be a courier or a taxi driver, the choice really is yours.

Working as a Self Employed Driver

If you want to become a courier then you can expect to earn anything up to £400 per day. That is a lot of money and it means that you can work whenever you want, as often as you want to. However, as with all self employed work, you may still go through quiet times.

Self employed taxi drivers do work hard and many times they have to work through holiday periods, sometimes up to 3-4 in the morning. They also go through quiet periods and they have to pay for the premises that they use and the car that they drive. Whilst some things can be claimed back on tax, others cannot so it is important to also find out what your obligations would be.

Another consideration to keep in mind is that self employed drivers work extra long hours and they hardly ever see their families. Of course it depends entirely upon what you are driving, but usually you will be away a lot. Many people could not cope with that but it is what you would need to do if you want to earn a good living through driving.

It is vital that you have the right qualifications also. It is not enough to just have a car and a licence, you need to actually have been driving for a long time and have a completely clean record.

Overall starting out as a self employed driver can be hard work. It is long hours, you will have to pay for some things yourself and business will not always be booming. So as long as you keep those things in mind being a self employed driver should suit you perfectly.
